Church Photoshoot

Last weekend, I was surprised to be invited by Mr. Marlon Mendoza of paCLICK_flickr_group to join them in their photoshoot project for the church here in Qatar. And since this is a project for a church, I couldn’t decline the invitation even though I was a little bit hesistant because this is my 1st time to participate in such an event.

The church of the Our Lady of Rosary here in Doha Qatar itself is the subject of this project and I was assigned to shoot for the architectural portion so I tried to capture some panoramic view from inside and outside the church.

EXTERIOR VIEWS

We went there very early in the morning to catch the sunrise but the sun didn’t show up as we are hoping because the sky that morning is somewhat cloudy. We still go on for the activity, maybe others might come back some other day for better lighting condition to get better shots, but for me a little ‘auto-levels’ in photoshop is enough because I don’t have the time (and the wheels) to come back early in the morning.

INTERIOR VIEWS

After three hours of shooting from the outside of the church, I decided to attend the mass and leave the shooting activity to them because I knew that we are too many and not all of us can shoot inside the church at the same time. But when I sat on the pew, I realized that I am already on a great angle for shooting so why not take this opportunity?

sometimes you also need to be lucky to capture a good shot, I’m lucky that this woman comes to pray while I’m shooting on the image of mama Mary.

FATHER TOM IN ACTION

As per briefing given to us by sir Marlon – that we need to shoot also for father Tom while he is doing the mass, here are my selected photos for him. I wish I have a long VR lens and a good tripod to make these photos sharper, but anyway I’m sure other members has a much better photos for father Tom – these are just my humble contribution.

in this last picture you will see how long and how hard it is to shoot handheld inside the church, click to enlarge and take a look at the head of the person receiving a ‘consecrated bread’.

THANK YOU FOR THE EXPERIENCE

I would like to express my sincerest thanks to all the members of paCLICK and DPSC member specially to sir Marlon Mendoza. I’m glad that I met in personal the gurus like George Bermeo and Alex Atienza (as other members tried to call them). Though I wish I could be part again of your group, my camera will flew back to the philippines with my wife and will stay there for good. Maybe I have to start saving again to buy another one, until that time……….

It’s always somebody will push you to the limit and not knowing that it will be a start of something new.

Most of the frame are exposed well, especially the Interiors, although it can be improved by the next time you shoot.

Having a much “wider lens” is a big help, since most of the frame are cropped by force due to lens limitation. Blue skies is lost, would have help from “polarizer” will added details. Architectural photography will always require a “tripod”, better have it all the time rather than missing it when needed.

Well, dream of a better D700 when time comes, he heeh heh, and a “prime lens”.

    Goodluck!

Hey Tanni thanks for your comments and inputs, it’s really unfortunate that I couldn’t find my polarizer during that day, and though I am not a big fan of post processing I was forced to tweak the exterior shots to show some blue in the skies.
And as you know I already send my D80 and all of my camera accesories with emily back there in the Philippines so I need to dream and wait the time when can I buy the D700 before I can continue my shooting activities. Till then…. hehe
